A break-even price with a 10% revenue-based fee
Calculate a break-even item price or target profit or margin from fulfillment costs, fixed fees, percentage fees and shipping collected. Use generic assumptions or continue from an Etsy worksheet.
Illustrative manual assumptions in USD unless units are stated. This is a reproducible example, not a marketplace settlement or carrier quote.
Inputs
- Total fulfillment cost
- 30 $
- Fixed selling fees
- 0.5 $
- Percentage selling fees
- 10 %
- Shipping charged to buyer
- 0 $
- Target margin
- 0 %
- Target profit per order
- 0 $
- Pricing goal
- Break even
Calculation
- Fulfillment and fixed fees total $30 + $0.50 = $30.50.
- Retained revenue fraction is 1 − 10% = 0.90.
- Raw break-even price = $30.50 ÷ 0.90 = $33.888888…; round upward to $33.89.
- Forward check: $33.89 × 0.90 − $30.50 = $0.001 before display rounding, so the cent price covers the entered costs.
Result: $33.89 break-even item price.
Assumptions and limits
The percentage fee applies to item plus shipping revenue, with no tax, advertising cap or discount. This example uses generic pricing, not the Etsy worksheet solver. It does not predict demand.
Generic fees share a revenue base (item + shipping), with no tax or caps. Margin means profit divided by seller revenue, including shipping collected. Continue from an Etsy worksheet to preserve its tax/discount/ad-cap rules instead of flattening them into generic fees.
